News of Sony‘s and PlayStation Productions multiple adaptation projects across multiple platforms based on hit video game franchises are slowly coming to the surface following the success of the Uncharted live-action film. New plans now call for for a live-action Gran Turismo adaptation that will take the form of a feature-length live-action film rather than earlier reports of a TV series, according to Hollywood trade newswire Deadline.

This latest news follows initial reports of a live-action film adaptation in 2016 that involved Fifty Shades of Grey producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti, but was quietly shelved until now. This suggests that Sony has seen fit to continue live-action development of its video game properties after the unexpected success of Uncharted. 

Deadline is also reporting that Sony is aiming to secure the services of highly regarded science fiction film director Neill Blomkamp, owing to his previous experience developing feature film concepts and shorts based on video games, notably the 2009 Halo short film he produced as a pilot for the ultimately abandoned feature film adaptation. That pilot eventually became the basis for sleeper hit District 9. 

Gran Turismo has been the subject of live-action productions before, with multiple documentaries produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and outside production companies over the years, as well as a reality show competition produced by Sony, FOX Television and Nissan titled GT Academy to find the best Gran Turismo player and turn them into a professional racing driver, to great success in 2011.
