#Kanye West talks Kushner friendship, meeting with Biden, Sanders in interview

Rapper-turned-politician Kanye West got candid with Nick Cannon about his interactions, and lack thereof in some cases, with political figures from Sen. Bernie Sanders to White House senior adviser and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Speaking to Nick Cannon on his YouTube podcast in part two of an interview filmed last month, the billionaire rapper discussed his views and his relationships with Democrats and Republicans.

West brought up his meeting with Kushner when discussing situations that had previously made him feel misunderstood.

After Cannon brought up how some critics felt that West was “a puppet” of the Trump reelection effort by meeting with Kushner, West explained why the meeting occurred.

“The thing is, I’m not one of these ‘I’m Black, so I’m Democrat 95 percent… Ninety-five percent of Black people are Democrats,” West said.

“I wanted to meet with Bernie Sanders before, he wouldn’t meet with me,” the billionaire sneaker mogul said, adding that he would “be fine” with the idea of meeting with Democratic nominee Joe Biden, a man he’s levied harsh criticism at.

“I would meet with anybody. I love everybody. Jesus loves everybody,” he continued before turning back to his longstanding friendship with Kushner, a relationship he says began long before either of them entered the political arena.

“I met with Jared, that’s a friend of mine. I knew them before they were in the White House. Trump used to go to award shows with Puff Daddy,” West remarked.

The rap superstar was then interrupted by Cannon, who noted that prior to running for president, Trump’s name was regularly featured in rap lyrics.

“That was the American dream, to ball out like Trump,” Cannon said.

Later on, West slammed the idea that his White House bid was a veiled effort to support Trump’s reelection effort.

“People keep on saying, ‘I think that y’all — you and Republicans — are in cahoots,’ ” the fashion mogul said.

Cannon then replied that, “They’re saying that they are paying you to do what you’re doing, to be a distraction.”

“Bro, can’t nobody pay me. I’ve got more money than Trump… With all praise to God,” West said in response. “The Republicans and the Democrats, they couldn’t afford me, bro.”

Asked then by Cannon what the purpose of meeting with Kushner was, West said that he didn’t need a purpose to get together with his friend. He added that they met to discuss economic empowerment for the African-American community.

“Now the thing is, I have a reason that people would like” for why the two met, the billionaire continued, adding that Kushner brought a printed out copy of “PowerNomics,” a book about black empowerment by Dr. Claude Anderson.

Kushner, according to West, took notes on the pages with thoughts about what he had read.

“Claude Anderson has a four year plan to rebuilding the Black community. That is what we talked about,” West continued.

West, a former supporter of the president, came under scrutiny recently after it was discovered that he had met with Kushner in early August.

The music mogul flatly rejected the criticisms, saying he owed no justification for his actions.

When Kushner was asked about the meeting during a Fox News interview earlier this month, he remarked that, “Unlike others, I’m able to keep friendships across the aisle.”

While discussing Kushner, West turned his attention to Biden, asking Cannon what Biden had done to be deserving of his vote.

“What has Biden done for me that’s so special? What has he done…to make me vote for this man?” West asked before adding, “and I don’t care about likability.”

Later on, West discussed why he knew he would make a great president, whether he made it to the White House in 2020 or 2024.

“The reason I eventually will make a great president is because I’m sensitive. I’m here to serve, even as a Gemini, I feel the energy in the room, I read body language, I read this energy and I hurt.

“I hurt for the country. I hurt for not just Black people but I hurt for all people of America and I hurt for all people of the world. I hurt for everyone’s children,” he said, expressing his sorrow for the pain in the world.
