A 14-day quarantine will be imposed on travelers coming to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut from states like Florida where coronavirus cases are skyrocketing, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday in a joint press conference with his two neighboring governors.

“We have to make sure the virus doesn’t come in on a plane again,” Cuomo said during the Manhattan press briefing where New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont appeared via livestream.

“So we’re announcing a joint travel advisory on people coming in from states with a high infection rate must quarantine,” Cuomo said, noting that the traveler quarantine will last for 14 days.

Cuomo said that the institution of the quarantine is “only for the simple reason that we worked really hard to get the viral transmission rate to go down.”

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were initially among the hardest-hit US states when the coronavirus pandemic started.

“There were no states that really were handed a worse hand than our states,” Cuomo said.

Florida now has more than 100,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and saw a record 5,508 new cases Wednesday.
