#Gov. Cuomo continues criticism of NYPD handling of looting amid turmoil

June 8, 2020 | 6:33pm

Gov. Andrew Cuomo doubled down on his criticism of NYPD leadership Monday when asked about rumored departures of the top brass.

Cuomo, during an interview on cable news channel NY1, said he “didn’t know” anything and “had no information” about the job status of Police Commissioner Dermot Shea and Chief of Department Terence Monahan.

But he then ripped open a scab from last week when he rapped the NYPD again for failing to prevent looting and rioting during an early night of protests over the alleged police brutality death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“The night of looting was terrible. I believe it was the management [of the NYPD] and I believe it was the deployment,” Cuomo said.

“It was true,” he added.

Cuomo said he knew the police didn’t like his criticism — but they got the message.

“It got better the next day,” he said.

Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Shea on Monday shot down rumors that the commissioner and Monahan were heading for the exits.

However, Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins  revived the issue when he said Monday he’s “willing to bet” that Shea and Monahan will be gone “in the next 30 to 60 days.”
