“#Google’s January Pixel 6 Update Arrives Earlier Than Expected – Review Geek”

Kevin Bonnett

Since the Pixel 6’s launch in late 2021, users have complained about all sorts of bugs that impact the display, fingerprint reader, and other important tools. These issues were supposed to get resolved in a December update, which was canceled due to a bug that prevented emergency calls. Now, Google is rolling out a Pixel 6 January update.

The January update (build number SQ1D.220105.007) should resolve some common Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro problems, though Google hasn’t published any release notes to confirm which bugs are squashed (we’ll update this article when that happens).

That said, we know that this update includes some small fixes and improvements that were pushed to other Pixel devices on January 4th. It also packs all the changes that were originally slated for the Pixel 6 December update, including improvements to fingerprint sensor reliability.

Notably, Google pushed this update a bit earlier than we expected. The company originally claimed that its January update would arrive at the end of the month.

If you’re a Pixel 6 user, you can either wait for this update to hit your device or install it manually. The full OTA image and factory image are available at Google Play Services. (Loading the OTA image is easier and doesn’t require a factory reset.)

This story is developing. As such, we’ll update this article with new information as it’s made available.
