Google is making some significant changes to its driving functionality that’ll work whether you have your phone mounted to your vent or you rely on Android Auto to stay connected while you’re on the go.

Google Assistant Driving Mode

Google Assistant driving mode is designed for anyone who uses an Android phone while in the car. Google is adding new features that’ll make it even more helpful. Now, you’ll be able to say, “Hey Google, let’s drive,” to open the new driving mode dashboard. It has large, tappable cards that make it easy to interact with your device quickly without being distracted.

You can use Google Assistant driving mode to Start your navigation, see who called or texted recently, and quickly resume media from Amazon Music, Audible, iHeartRadio, JioSaavn, Pandora, Podcast Addict, SoundCloud, Spotify, YouTube Music, and more providers.

You can also say, “Hey Google, turn on auto-read” to have Assistant read your messages aloud as you drive.

Google says the mode will fully roll out in the next few weeks for Android phones in English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian.

Improvements to Android Auto

Google also announced improvements to Android Auto for cars that support the in-dash infotainment system.

Within Android Auto, you’ll see music, news, and podcast recommendations from Google Assistant. You’ll also be able to set which app launches whenever Android Auto starts.

Google is also adding games from GameSnacks that you can play from your car’s display while you’re parked.

Other Google Assistant Changes

A remarkable feature coming to Google Assistant and Android is the ability to pay for gas at the pump by saying, “Hey Google, pay for gas.” From there, you’ll be able to select a pump number and pay at gas stations from 32,500 gas stations across the U.S. Supported companies include Exxon and Mobil, Conoco, Phillips 66, and 76 stations. Shell stations are also coming soon.

All in all, Google has improved the driving experience with ANdroid. Of course, it’s always safer to avoid using your phone while driving. If you absolutely must, at least these features make doing so less distracting.
