Just as we predicted, Google plans to host its Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro launch event on October 19th. We’ll finally get a good look at the groundbreaking flagships, which run on custom-made Google Tensor processors and pack the largest camera upgrades in Pixel history.

Because the Pixel 6 is such a leap from previous devices, we expect Google to spend a long time discussing all of its features—especially those that are made possible by the new Tensor chip. Google designed this new processor to optimize the stuff that it cares about most, like camera performance, augmented reality, text-to-speech, the Google Assistant, and other AI-powered software.

Of course, we’re mostly interested in the Pixel 6’s cameras. Leaks indicate that Google held off on upgrading the Pixel’s 12.2MP lens for several years to make the most of its new Tensor chip, which should provide a boost to Google’s already-incredible computational photography AI. If rumors are correct, the Pixel 6 is the first Google device with a 50MP main lens or a 48MP 4X zoom lens. It may also pack a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

But camera performance isn’t everything. There’s a decent chance that the optimized Tensor chip will extend the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro battery life, a much-needed improvement, given that these may be the first Google flagships to pack 120Hz displays. Ultra-fast wireless charging speeds also seem like a possibility, though of course, this information is based on leaks.

Google will host its Pixel 6 launch event on October 19th at 1 PM EST (10 AM PT). The event will stream live on YouTube, and you can sign up for a reminder on the Google event page. Given that this is a launch event, there’s a good chance that Google will open Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro pre-orders on October 19th … so get your wallet ready.
