“Ecko Bazz surrenders to remembrance in “Mugulu E’yo””

The Ugandan rapper’s new album Mmaso is out today via Hakuna Kulala.

Today, Ugandan rapper and activist Ecko Bazz drops his new album Mmaso. A feverish and entirely gripping vision of post-industrial rap, Mmaso harnesses the fire-and-brimstone presence of Saul Williams with the grim, gunmetal sonics of Kanye West’s Yeezus and latter-day The Bug. To get you started on your initiation to Bazz’s world, The FADER is premiering his new music video for “Mugulu E’yo.”

The song begins as a funereal dub with a distant gong and anxious traces of drum fills before its explosion with Bazz’s kinetic presence. In the track’s video, multiple Bazz clones convene in the sky and deliver their performances amid storms and an abundance of slick visuals effects. “In this video,” Bazz said in a statement, “I express the emotions I feel when I remember moments in life with my aunt, who I call my mom according to Baganda culture.”
