#Evangelion 1.0+3.0 Cancels Midnight Screenings

The Evangelion Twitter page and website announced that the upcoming midnight screenings for Evangelion 1.0+3.0: Thrice Upon A Time have been cancelled, due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

As reported by Crunchyroll, another given reason for the cancellation of the “world’s fastest screening” of the movie is the new State of Emergency in Japan, which limits the operation times of cinemas. Crunchyroll noted that theatres in the Greater Tokyo Area have to close at 8PM as a result of the Emergency.

The announcement also included a message of sympathy for COVID-19 victims.

Evangelion 1.0+3.0: Thrice Upon A Time was meant to have its midnight screening on January 23 at 12AM JST. The regular screening is currently set to go on and will begin in January 23. The movie was previously delayed from its June 27, 2020 release date due to COVID-19.

The movie is the fourth and final entry in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, a retelling of the 1995 Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The third Rebuild of Evangelion movie’s IMAX screening was recently delayed by a day because of technical issues.
