#Glenn Close talks Mets fandom on ‘Amazin’ But True’ podcast

It’s hard to complain right now if you’re a Mets fan. Throughout all the postponements this season, the Mets head to Chicago this week with a 7-4 record, sitting atop the NL East standings. Their starting pitching has been amongst the best in baseball. They are getting contributions across the board and winning games, despite Mother Nature not helping their case through the first few weeks.

To talk about Marcus Stroman’s sensational outing, Jacob deGrom’s brilliance and the Mets’ series win in Colorado, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me. We were so thrilled to be joined by one of the most iconic actresses of all time, the legendary Glenn Close, who happens to be a big Mets fan.

• METS TAKE SERIES: Stroman was dominant Sunday. He’s silenced his critics so far this season. James McCann has been a huge boost for these starting pitchers. He works well with pitchers and ended Sunday’s game with a cannon to second base. DeGrom is just on another planet. He will have more chances to beat Tom Seaver’s record of 10 straight strikeouts. Mets are getting some new heroes every night, which is a recipe for a big season. Edwin Diaz’s stuff has looked filthy so far. Cue the trumpets!
• GOING TO YANKEES GAME: Benihana at the Yankees game, but it’s an escape room to get around. Opposing team hits home run ball to right field, deja vu from me catching Jazz Chisholm Jr. HR ball last week. Guy who caught ball got booed much louder than me, and it ended up being caught by Zack Hample. Dude has enough balls for 100 lifetimes.

Legendary actress, Mets fan

• METS FANDOM/NATIONAL ANTHEM: Have to have hope and enthusiasm. Grandmother was a Yankees fan. Got annoyed with George Steinbrenner how he ran the team, became a Mets fan. Sang national anthem at Shea Stadium for the 1986 World Series and at Citi Field. Not an easy song to sing.
• ACTING CAREER: Wants to keep going. Proud of everything she does. Top three movies most proud of are probably “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Fatal Attraction” and “Albert Nobbs.”
• PLAYING GUTLESS IN HOOK: The story of how she ended up playing a male pirate in “Hook.” Nobody recognized her.
• 101 DALMATIONS/CRUELLA DE VIL: Stands the test of time. Playing strong female characters in her career. Finds them fascinating. Cruella was most evil character she ever played.
• GLENN QUESTIONS FIGGIE: Dealing with crowds and boos and the mindset of a baseball player.
