Highlights from Wednesday’s Giants practice:

Evan Almighty

The Giants didn’t practice in pads or at full speed, as Wednesday’s session inside MetLife Stadium was more of a walk-through. But tight end Evan Engram did make a nifty grab of a 40-yard pass from Daniel Jones over Jabrill Peppers down the right sideline for a touchdown.

Lap dance

Converted center Nick Gates had to run a punishment lap for a botched snap with Jones. Wide receiver Corey Coleman also ran one for a false start at the line of scrimmage.

Caught my eye

The emptiness of the inside of the stadium was impossible to ignore at a rare stadium practice ahead of Friday’s intrasquad scrimmage. It’s something players will need to get used to with the season rapidly approaching and still no fans permitted at games in New Jersey.

Medical report

Another rough day for the Giants’ depleted defense, as rookie safety Xavier McKinney (fractured foot) and linebacker David Mayo (knee) both need surgery. Center Spencer Pulley and linebacker Ryan Connelly also missed practice and worked out on the side.
