New York Yankees Giancarlo Stanton opened the 2020 season with a monster home run into left-center field.

The 459-foot blast in the first inning gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead on Thursday night. It had an exit velocity of 112.2, according to Statcast.

Stanton, who slammed Washington Nationals Max Scherzer’s 96.9 mph cutter, joined a list of Yankees who hit a home run in his first plate appearance on Opening Day. Some legends featured on the list include Babe Ruth and Danny Tartabull, according to the YES Network.

Scherzer wasn’t pleased after the blast, screaming “Goddamnit!,” once Stanton made contact with the pitch.

Adam Eaton hit a solo blast off Gerrit Cole in the bottom of the inning to cut the Yankees’ lead to 2-1.
