#Georgia police spokesman blamed China for pandemic on Facebook: report

A Georgia sheriff’s captain who delivered press briefings on a gunman’s murder spree at Atlanta-area spas reportedly made a Facebook post blaming the coronavirus pandemic on China.

Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of T-shirts on his Facebook page last April that had the phrase, “COVID 19 — Imported Virus From Chy-na,” BuzzFeed News reported.

Baker on Wednesday drew criticism when he said suspected killer Robert Aaron Long had “a really bad day” before gunning down eight people — including six Asian women.

“Love my shirt,” Baker reportedly commented on the Facebook post. “Get yours while they last.’”

Baker did not respond to a request for comment about the post.

The cop is the communications director for his sheriff’s office, which patrols the area where Long allegedly fatally shot four of his victims and wounded another at Young’s Asian Massage on Tuesday night.

At Wednesday’s press briefing, Baker said Long “has an issue that he considers a sex addiction and sees these locations as something that allows him to go to these places,” without elaborating further on his motive.

“It’s a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate. He was pretty much fed up and kind of at the end of his rope, and yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did,” Baker said.

Long was charged Wednesday with four counts of murder and one count of assault for the first shooting in Cherokee County.
