George Floyd protesters in NYC kneel during National Anthem

June 3, 2020 | 8:33pm

Hundreds of George Floyd protesters marching in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday stopped for a poignant rendition of the National Anthem.

Video shows a large crowd kneeling with their fists held up in the air at 34th Street and 8th Avenue around 5:15 p.m., as a man played The Star-Spangled Banner on a trumpet.

“For the land of the free, and the home of the brave,” the crowd roared in unison, before getting up and cheering loudly, in a touching, and seemingly impromptu moment.

The protest, one of several in New York on Wednesday — the seventh day of demonstrations against police brutality and the killing of Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis cops — had begun in Washington Square Park.

The group then walked north, taking small breaks along the way to chant and listen to speeches. They continued toward Central Park, after the moving musical interlude.
