“Gary Player accuses son of selling memorabilia without permission”

Gary Player has come out swinging against his son.

The 86-year-old golf legend’s estranged son, Marc, recently put some of his father’s memorabilia up for auction. The elder Player has urged buyers not to purchase the items and says he’s attempting to get them back.

“I would like to draw the public’s attention to the fact that several trophies and other pieces of memorabilia that form part of my legacy have been put up for sale by my son and ex-manager, Marc,” Gary Player said, according to The Telegraph. “These items belong to me and I have taken action to recover them. I have placed no items for sale — whether by auction or otherwise.”

This is the second piece of recent drama surrounding one of Gary Player’s sons.

Wayne Player revealed this past May that he has been banned for life from the Masters after a previous promotional stunt gone wrong. Last year, when the tournament was honoring Lee Elder, the first black man to ever compete at Augusta National, Player’s son was seen surreptitiously promoting a golf ball during the ceremony.

“Well, they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” Wayne Player told Golf Digest. “I found out that that’s not quite true.

“I had probably 50 texts after that, 40 of them said I’m a marketing genius, 10 were like, ‘What the hell were you thinking?’ It wasn’t premeditated, but it was a tacky thing.”
