#Angelica Ross Alleges Emma Roberts Intentionally Misgendered Her on the Set of ‘American Horror Story: 1984’

Angelica Ross has accused her former American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts of intentionally misgendering her while filming the FX series’ 1984 season.

In an Instagram Live posted to her verified social media page on Tuesday, Ross alleges that Roberts implied she was a man while the duo was in between takes on a set. “I’m standing in front of Emma, talking to her like this, and she’s in front of me, her back against the mirror,” the actress said. “She goes, ‘John, Angelica’s being mean.’”

Ross, who is trans, recalled the incident, which she says took place as her co-star responded to an AHS crew member identified only as “John,” who urged for both actors to refocus and “get back to work.”

“John is like, ‘OK, ladies, that’s enough. Let’s get back to work.’ And she then looks at me, and she goes, ‘Don’t you mean lady?’ And she turns around like this and covers her mouth,” Ross said. “I’m staring at her looking her dead ass in the [camera] and I’m like trying to process the fuck she just said.”

Ross also alleged this was not the first time Roberts has had negative interactions with an actor on a set, telling her Instagram Live viewers that her own decision to not report the incident was based on a fear of retaliation after the outcome of another alleged interaction between someone and Roberts.

“My blood is boiling because I’m like, if I say something, it’s gonna be me that’s the problem,” she explained. “I know this because there was someone who spoke up about what she was doing, and they got repercussions from it.”

The actress added that following the interaction, she resolved to not speak further with Roberts — something Ross claims her former co-star did eventually notice. “I was just like, ‘I’m done,’” Ross continued. “We had scenes together, and I never spoke to her. She said to me, she could feel the energy coming off of me. She was like, ‘Are you OK? You haven’t been talking.’ I’m like, ‘Mmmhmm.’”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to reps for Roberts, FX and Ross for comment.
