Dallas rapper and producer FXXXXY has died, an IGA spokesperson has confirmed. According to the spokesperson, the artist died of complications from a routine medical procedure. FXXXXY was 25 years old.

FXXXXY’s family said in a statement:

The family of Maudell Watkins, aka FXXXXY, aka FBG Fox, are totally shocked and devastated at his unexpected and unforeseen passing. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to his many friends and acquaintances who’ve reached out to us in this extremely difficult time. He lived music with every breath he took and his focus and drive were unmatched. May his contributions to the music industry live forever. CC 4 Life!

FXXXXY (pronounced “Foxy”) made a name for himself with his 2016 Cartel Shawty EP. The next year, he shared the follow-up Flawed Up Shawty EP. The latter EP featured two popular early tracks, “Lip Service 6” and “Beep Beep.” Earl Sweatshirt was an early champion of the artist, tweeting his support in 2015.

In August 2018, FXXXXY collaborated with Gunna on “Need U,” his first single for Rule #1 and Interscope Records. A month later, FXXXXY and Lil Durk released “Follow Me.”

In 2019, FXXXXY began his work with Future, serving as an engineer on SAVE ME. He also produced the EP’s “Government Official” and co-produced “Extra.” He then co-engineered “Solitaires” from this year’s High Off Life.

In early September, FXXXXY shared the music video for “Paranoia / #1 Stunna,” the final single of his lifetime.
