The official website for the Fruits Basket anime announced that the anime series is getting a compilation film titled Fruits Basket -prelude- to premiere in Japan on February 18. A new visual was also revealed.
The film will also include the previously announced Kyоko to Katsuya no Monogatari (Kyоko and Katsuya’s Story) anime which focuses on Tohru’s parents Kyоko and Katsuya, along with new scenes written specifically for the film by manga creator Natsuki Takaya, covering events after the anime.
The anime’s main staff and cast will return for the film. The animation production will be from TMS Entertainment.
The anime’s first season premiered in April 2019 and aired for 25 episodes. Fruits Basket 2nd Season premiered in April 2020 and also aired for 25 episodes. Fruits Basket: The Final Season premiered on April 5 and ended on June 28 with its 13th episode. Funimation and Crunchyroll both streamed the anime as it aired.

Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!
