Chevron has asked its global workforce to delete popular social media app WeChat from their phones following the Trump administration’s attempts to ban the Chinese-owned platform.

The oil giant called WeChat — an all-in-one messaging and social media app that is owned by Tencent and is massively popular in China — a “non-compliant application.”

Chevron workers have until Sept. 27 to delete it or see their phones disconnected from the company’s network, Bloomberg reported.

A US judge on Sunday blocked a government order requiring Apple and Google to remove WeChat from their app stores over national security concerns. The Commerce Department said earlier this week that it would challenge the order.

Chevron and Tencent, which has denied its apps pose a national security risk, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The order banning WeChat came as a part of the same order that banned downloads of TikTok. The popular video app, which was supposed to disappear from app stores on Sunday, was spared after President Trump signed off on a deal that would see American investors take a controlling stake in a new, US-based company called TikTok global.
