Texas Rep. Sylvia Garcia made the revelation at a Tuesday press briefing after joining Guillen’s family in a meeting with Fort Hood officials.
“They have now used the words foul play,” Garcia told reporters, according to a live stream of the press conference posted to Facebook by KWTX News 10.
“They are convinced now that there is foul play involved and they’re following all the leads that they can.”
Last week, the army upped a reward offer to $25,000 for information about Guillen’s whereabouts.
The 20-year-old member of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment was last seen April 22 in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters.
The nationwide search for Guillen — whose car keys, room key, ID card and wallet were later found in the armory room where she had been working — has also included efforts by actress Salma Hayek.
“One of Vanessa’s dreams has always been to join the US Army,” Garcia said at Tuesday’s press conference, which was also attended by Guillen’s family and their lawyer.
“Now we’re dealing with a tragedy. A tragedy that involves Vanessa being missing two months now,” the lawmaker said.
