A 25-year-old Fort Hood soldier has died after collapsing during a training exercise, Army officials said Friday.

Pvt. Corlton L. Chee passed away Wednesday after collapsing on Aug. 28, according to Fort Hood officials.

Chee was transported to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center and transferred to Baylor Scott and White in Temple, Texas on Aug. 30, where he died with his family by his side.

Further details surrounding his death have not been released. An autopsy will be performed by the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas and the incident is under investigation.

“Every loss affects every single person in this Battalion because we a family of warriors, but this is exceptionally heartbreaking,” Lt. Col. Ron Sprang, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, said in a statement.

Chee was from Pinehill, New Mexico and entered the Army in February as a tank crewman. In July, he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Calvary Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division.

He won awards including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Chee is the 28th Fort Hood soldier to die this year, according to data obtained by the Associated Press.

Last month, the base was determined to have the highest number of soldier murders and sexual assault cases among all Army installations.
