It’s official. Kasie Hunt, the former NBC News correspondent and MSNBC anchor, has decamped for CNN.

Rumors that Hunt was heading for CNN began to spread after the journalist announced her departure on air last month during her MSNBC morning show, “Way Too Early.”

CNN officially announced Hunt’s hire on Tuesday, noting that she will join the network as an anchor and chief national affairs analyst.

The former NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent will cover national and breaking news stories for CNN and its streaming service, CNN+ when it launches in early 2022. She will also anchor a daily political news show for the CNN+, which marks the network’s first big push into streaming.

Hunt, who starts at her new gig on Sept. 7, is the first new talent hire for CNN+, which was first announced by CNN boss Jeff Zucker last month.

Details of her show and additional hires for the streaming service are expected in the coming months ahead of the launch.

Hunt most recently spent eight years at NBC News where she cut her teeth as an off-air reporter before securing a weekend show in 2017, and then her show “Way Too Early” last year. Her role at CNN+ will be important to the nascent streaming service’s success as it enters a crowded that includes rival services such as Fox News’ Fox Nation and NBCUniversal’s Peacock.
