#Fordham basketball halts workouts after positive COVID-19 test

Due to a positive COVID-19 test, Fordham’s men’s basketball team began a 14-day pause of all workouts on Friday, a source confirmed, that is in line with NCAA guidelines.

The Rams are scheduled to open the season against Iona and Rick Pitino on Nov. 25 at Rose Hill Gym in The Bronx. That means practice can start again on Nov. 13 if all goes well, less than two weeks before the opener. Fordham, the first New York City area program to be forced to pause workouts since official practices began on Oct. 14, also is supposed to face St. John’s on Dec. 8 at Carnesecca Arena, along with playing Manhattan, Maine and Stony Brook this season, a source said.

Fordham is following the guidelines, not only by holding off on workouts, but having players and staff members isolate for 14 days.

The NCAA has issued a guideline for basketball programs to have entire teams quarantine for one positive test and not work out together during that time, which many coaches feel will make it difficult for anything close to a normal season to be played.
