#Karl-Anthony Towns in middle of ‘FreeKat’ controversy

Karl-Anthony Towns doesn’t want to #FreeKat after all.

The Timberwolves star denied liking a tweet from his account that suggested he is looking to force his way out of Minnesota. Towns — whose name has swirled in trade rumors before, including to the New York Knicks — claimed that his account was hacked.

The intriguing hashtag was a reply underneath a photo of Towns celebrating with the caption “kat when he gets off his minnesota contract.”

“Honestly, I woke up this morning, my agent hit me up and was like, ‘Karl, what is this?’’ Towns said, according to Dane Moore of “The Dane Moore NBA Podcast.“

“I was like, what the f–k are you talking about? I hadn’t woke up yet for the whole day. She showed me and I said, ‘Damn.’”

And he situation unfolded on the same day that the Timberwolves dropped their third consecutive game and fourth in five games with a 126-115 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Towns scored 18 points in the defeat for his second-lowest output of the season. But the only two other people that have access to his account, Towns said, are one of his agents, Jessica Holtz, and his friend Chucky, though Chucky was in the hospital with his father — and wouldn’t have time to do something like that — and Holtz has never used it.

“Sorry to the Wolves fans,” Towns told Moore. “I ain’t want to cause no hysteria or anything like that. But just know I’m very happy. I know we’re on a skid so it came at the worst possible time, that little hacking. Just know I’m very happy here.  I’m excited to build more years here, not just this year.”

Towns, who has two years remaining on the five-year, $158 million contract, averaged 23.9 points per game through Minnesota’s first seven games of the campaign and has experienced just one winning season since he joined the franchise as the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Their next chance to snap the losing streak will come on Friday night when they host the Clippers again.
