“First juvenile monkeypox case identified in New York”

The first case of monkeypox in someone younger than 18 has been identified in New York, according to health officials.

Data posted to the state Health Department website says only that the case is in a patient who lives outside of New York City.

It is among 192 probable and confirmed cases of the virus reported outside of the Big Apple.

Within New York City, there were 2,596 cases as of Friday, according to the city DOH.

The virus is typically spread through close contact with an infected person or by touching items they have used such as clothing or towels.
