Now is not exactly the "prime time" for traveling, with both airline and tourism industries among the many hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. All Nippon Airways (ANA) is hoping to provide some alternative options, and the company has enlisted Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata and his JP Games team to help do so.

Tabata is serving as general producer for the project, preparations for which began back in August. ANA wants to send users to virtual travel destinations via their mobile devices, giving them a chance to visit CG recreations of actual cities around the globe.

Here's what Tabata said about his project with ANA:

“I want to make the best use of my knowledge and skills fostered from RPG development to evolve travel into something beyond reality. I’ll give it my best to be helpful to ANA.”

More details will be revealed at a later date, and the project timeline has it launching sometime in the next two or three years.

It's been a few years since Tabata left his role as head of Square Enix's Luminous Productions shortly after word that the final DLC chapters had been canceled for Final Fantasy XV. He announced the founding of JP Games near the end of 2018, followed by a formal launch in January 2019.
