#Fence erected at Chicago beach after mayor slams ‘reckless behavior’

Fencing was erected outside a Chicago beach to prevent people from accessing the closed area after the city’s mayor blasted non-socially distant beachgoers for their “reckless behavior.”

The barrier was seen Sunday outside of Montrose Beach, which, along with other beaches, playgrounds and pools east of Lake Shore Drive, remains closed over coronavirus concerns, NBC Chicago reported.

On Saturday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called out a gathering of mainly maskless men who congregated in close proximity in a grassy area adjacent to Montrose Beach.

“It’s called a pandemic, people,” Lightfoot tweeted. “This reckless behavior on Montrose Beach is what will cause us to shut down the parks and lakefront. Don’t make us take steps backwards.”

The mayor added that she checked out the scene herself and said the situation was “being addressed.”
