At least one sponsor is speaking.

Not long after Adweek reported that big-name sponsors, shareholders and investors like Nike and PepsiCo were putting pressure on owner Daniel Snyder to change the Washington Redskins moniker, FedEx — the company that’s name graces the team’s home field — confirmed it had done so.

“We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name,” the shipping company said in a statement.

The franchise has long faced opposition from Native American groups and fans over its racist name, though Snyder has refused to change it, saying it represents “a badge of honor.”

Keeping the name now could prove problematic, as Snyder wants to move the team from its current FedEx Field home in Landover, Maryland after its lease is up in 2027. To return to Washington D.C., officials have been adamant he would have to change the name the franchise has had since 1933, according to the Washington Post.
