“#Fall 2020 luxury fashion and home launches from Ralph Lauren, Balmain, Moncler and more”
Nearly 20 years after founding their beloved beauty brand Fresh, Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg have partnered with hospitality guru Damien Janowicz, launching the Maker Hotel in historic Hudson, NY. The exquisite belle époque-meets-midcentury modern escape (just a 2.5-hour drive from NYC) features hand-painted murals, custom light fixtures and farm-to-table haute cuisine. Best of all, you can bring home the crowning jewel of the rooms — custom beds, available for purchase through the Maker’s shop and designed by Glazman himself. A modern reinterpretation of the Louis XV style, they are, appropriately, fit for a king — or queen.
Balmain Barbie
“Balmain Barbie” has a new dreamhouse at 650 Madison Ave. in NYC. It’s the French house’s latest boutique, full of logoed looks like the custom ones Kim Kardashian West flaunted on Instagram (above). The “1945” clutch she carried in her post is available, as are two limited-edition “BBuzz” bags inspired by airmail envelopes. All were designed by Kardashian West’s friend, creative director Olivier Rousteing, who loves to doll up his muse.
Power puff
Hail the jolly down jacket! Northern Irish creative Jonathan Anderson teamed with Moncler Genius on a cheerful collab named 1 Moncler JW Anderson. The line, unveiled in February, is full of playful blousons with padded zip-pullers, extra-long scarves, and his signature ruffled shorts and jaunty Riviera hat, all made of duvet. Embossed dots and puffy spikes add texture and fun to the unisex pieces. Have a great time bundling up.
Give ’em the boot
Few brands marry comfort and chic like Lafayette 148, which is why fans are lining up for the label’s first foray into footwear. Creative director Emily Smith spearheaded the made-in-Europe shoe collection, sized inclusively from 34.5 to 43. There’s a focus on masculine-feminine silhouettes like loafers, Oxfords, and combat boots with discreet gold hardware. Fans will also find sexy, strappy sandals and asymmetrical high-heeled pumps for the office and beyond.
Well invested
Personalize a puffer with Ralph Lauren’s new online program. First, decide if you want a jacket, hooded style or vest (all made of recycled nylon and polyester and recycled Primaloft Thermoplume insulation). Second, select the base, sleeve, hood, zipper and polo-pony-logo colors of your custom creation (available in men’s, women’s and children’s sizes). Third, make your piece truly one-of-a-kind by monogramming the inside label and handy storage bag with the name, initials or message of your choice. Last, enjoy your made-to-order masterpiece.
California dreaming
Dries Van Noten has supersized his first American store. Earlier this month, the Belgian designer opened his largest boutique in the world at 451 N. La Cienega Blvd. The 8,500-square-foot space is filled with art, music and his enchantingly patterned men’s and women’s lines. Pianists are invited to perform on a Steinway grand and artists are asked to paint directly on the walls or exhibit their works. Archive rooms on both floors even house a selection of vintage Dries. Now that’s sustainable chic.
Beverly Hills, what a thrill
For a don’t-care, LA-style fit, head to Amiri’s new store at 461 N. Rodeo Drive. The light-filled flagship, realized by CEO and creative director Mike Amiri, carries the full range of menswear, womenswear and accessories with a SoCal twist. Think airbrushed denim jackets, message tees (like the ones spotted on Beyoncé and Taylor Swift), tie-dye sweaters, vintage-inspired jackets and destroyed jeans (as seen on Tyga and Justin Bieber). Tap into the lifestyle.
