A 21-year-old former college football player was busted for allegedly enrolling in a Georgia high school as a freshman, authorities said.

Abay Holmes began classes after purporting to be a homeless 14-year-old to a Milledgeville woman who took him into her home, news station WMAZ reported.

He was started virtual learning at Baldwin County High School, where he was given a laptop to complete classwork, police said.

But just days into classes, he started acting disrespectfully to the woman and she kicked him out, the outlet reported.

Holmes tried to take the laptop with him, which prompted the woman to call the authorities Aug. 25 so the device could be returned to the school district, police said.

The Department of Family and Child Services got involved since Holmes claimed to be a homeless teen.

But once authorities fingerprinted him, he was identified as a 21-year-old who was once a star football player at an Atlanta high school, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

He was recruited after graduation to play football at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, the newspaper reported.

But his college football career was derailed when he was arrested in 2017 in connection to a string of car break-ins on campus, the Union Recorder reported.

He pleaded guilty to a theft charge and left college, ending his chances for playing for the team, the outlet reported.

Holmes was taken into custody Aug. 25 in the latest alleged scam, the outlets reported.

He was charged with giving law enforcement a false name and birthday and making false statements on documents.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Offices Capt. Brad King said they don’t believe that Holmes was trying to gain access to any high school students, news station WGXA reported.

“We do not believe that any students in Baldwin County would’ve been in danger at any point and time,” King said. “Because everything is adding up to the fact that he was simply having to follow through on his lie that he was 14 and homeless.”

The Baldwin County School District said it was cooperating with law enforcement in the case.
