#Everything We Know About That ’90s Show

That ’90s Show, the spinoff of the coming-of-age comedy television show That ’70s Show, has now started production. Netflix announced the new series back in October. Nostalgia for the ’90s and classic show revivals are at an all-time high, and fans are hoping the new series will give them a familiar vibe and feeling as the original. With that, here’s everything we know so far about That ’90s Show!

Which Cast Members Are Returning?

If you’re a longtime fan of the franchise, then you’ll be happy to hear that Red and Kitty will be in the show, with Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprising their roles. They will be in the spinoff as grandpa and grandma to Leia Forman.

Everyone’s still wondering if Eric and Donna will also join the series or if they would be portrayed by Topher Grace and Laura Prepon, though the latter remains unknown. Whether any other original cast members come back, we hope and expect to see the loose ends of their stories be dealt with through conversations in the new show.

Aside from the original Kitty and Red, leading the cast is Callie Haverda as their granddaughter, Eric and Donna’s daughter, Leia Forman. Other cast includes Leia’s best friend, Gwen, played by Ashley Aufderheide; Mace Coronel as the charming and flirty Jay, who always has a camcorder ready; Jay’s best friend, and Gwen’s older brother, Nate, played by Maxwell Acee Donovan; Reyn Doi as Ozzie, a sarcastic, gay friend; and Sam Morelos playing Nate’s rebellious girlfriend Nikki.

Rupp and Smith (aka Red and Kitty) shared the first photos on set last weekend. “What’s that in my old 70’s Show chair?” asked Smith while showing the cover page of the pilot script with the new logo — which looks a bit like Nirvana’s logo. Smith also tweeted, “Red and Kitty, teenagers, grunge rock… let’s gooooo!”

Rupp shared almost the same photo, saying, “And we have started,” with a picture of her nameplate and pilot script. Former costar from That ’70s Show Danny Masterson (aka Hyde) commented on her Instagram post, “I pre-nominate you for the Emmy.” Masterson probably won’t ever join the revival show as he’s dealing with criminal charges. She also posted the same image to Twitter, tweeting, “Back again. The same but different. So fun.”

What is the Plot of That ’90s Show?

The official summary of the series has been revealed: “Hello, Wisconsin! It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red. Sex, drugs, and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.”

The new show is clearly trying to emulate the original show’s dynamics while adapting to the ’90s culture. We know it’s back in Point Place, Wisconsin, with Kitty and Red hopefully still living in the same Forman family home. It wouldn’t be the worst thing if we saw Leia walk in Eric and Donna’s footsteps to the iconic Forman basement.

Is the Hub still open? Will we see Leia and her friends explore punk rock clubs? Hip hop shows? Grunge bands? Heroin chic? Boy bands? Or even popularized awkward expressions like “wassup!” or “talk to the hand?”

How Will the Ending of the Original Influence That ’90s Show? That '70s Show Finale

In Season 7 of That ’70s Show, Eric left home in Point Place when he graduated from high school and started feeling the weight of adult life and responsibilities. He couldn’t afford to go to college and abandoned his life-long love Donna at the altar on their wedding day. After that, he decided to go teach in Africa, leaving everything and everyone behind. Season 8 also saw Ashton Kutcher (Kelso) leave, after getting a job as security for the Playboy Club, to be closer to his daughter Betsy.

Jackie broke up with Hyde and fell in love with Fez, so maybe they’re still together? And the newly single Donna tried to make it work with Randy, who was hired to work at Hyde’s record shop. Randy did not do well with fans, and he didn’t have much of a part in the final episodes. Because Eric and Donna have a daughter, they may have gotten back together after that New Year’s kiss in the 200th and last episode of the series. However, That ’90s Show is about Leia and her grandparents, so what happened to Eric and Donna? Only time will tell.

Who will be the new Eric? Or the new Kelso? Will the new characters be copies of the old ones? Or will they be original? There are tons of questions that will soon be answered.

Anticipated Release Date

Netflix has yet to confirm the release date, but they did confirm 10 episodes for now. Stay tuned for further updates.
