#Everything We Know About Michael B. Jordan’s New Film

After two exhilarating Creed movies, Michael B. Jordan is ready for round three as he prepares for his directorial debut with Creed III. Ryan Coogler’s Creed, a spin-off from the Rocky franchise, told the story of Adonis “Creed” Johnson, the son of famous boxer Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. Despite his struggle with walking in his father’s shadow, boxing is in Adonis’ blood, and he couldn’t help but follow in his father’s footsteps. Boxing fans were gladly brought a familiar face to the screen when Sylvester Stallone starred as boxing legend Rocky Balboa, who agreed to train and guide young Creed as an old friend of his father’s. With plenty of love, courage, dedication, and a slew of tense fighting scenes, the film offered fans a modern and engaging take on the franchise.

Creed II was no different in 2018, with more punches, rounds, and, of course, bloody noses, ratcheting up the drama all the while. Jordan is now fighting his way into a third film, but it appears that Creed will be boxing without his mentor, since Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he will not be joining the cast this time. Regardless, fans are still going crazy for more bruised details on the new movie, which continues one of the bext boxing tales in film history. Here’s all we know so far about Creed III.

Holding Agency and Boxing Gloves

Michael B. Jordan will, of course, reprise his iconic role as Adonis Creed. Jordan began acting in 1999 and has been in TV shows such as The Wire and Friday Night Lights, but it was with Fruitvale Station, based on the true story of Oscar Grant’s tragic death, that he got his breakthrough in 2013. The film earned an AFI Award for movie of the year, and his career took off, landing him roles in the aforementioned Creed (of course) and as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, which also received an AFI Award for movie of the year and a BAFTA for Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects. He’s recently shown a more vulnerable side in Denzil Washington’s film A Journal for Jordan and has had some fun doing energetic voice-over work on several current animated shows.

Jordan’s acting skills have progressed over the years, and fans can’t wait for him to make it to the director’s chair. He exudes confidence in his career, something he will no doubt bring behind the camera, and he surely has a lot of ideas for how his character should and will evolve, having played the excellent role twice. Fans are confident that Jordan will attack Creed III with the same fire and tenacity his character shows in the ring. In fact, Jordan told Variety that he has always wanted to direct and that he believed this was the right step for the progression of his career:

“Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. Creed III is that moment – a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. ”

Who’s Still in the Ring?

Although fans will be devastated to know that Sylvester Stallone won’t be returning as Rocky, the third installment in the wonderfully gripping Creed series will be welcoming back Tessa Thompson, Jordan’s on-screen love, playing Adonis’s wife Bianca. Her roles in Tina Mabry’s drama Mississippi Damned and Tyler Perry’s For Coloured Girls gained her recognition before appearing in the first and second Creed films, as well as Thor: Ragnarok and HBO’s epic Westworld series. She has since acted in successful films like Men in Black: International and Avengers: Endgame, and superhero fans will soon see her in Thor: Love and Thunder. She may even receive an Oscar nomination (or a win) for her acclaimed role in the recent film Passing.

Phylicia Rashad will also reprise her role as Adonis’ step-mother in Creed III. The actress is best known for her Emmy Award-nominated performance as Clair Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show (1984–1992). She has since starred opposite Tessa Thompson in For Coloured Girls, as well as Good Deeds, and, most recently, the Creed films, meaning that their developing family chemistry will continue.

It has been announced that a new face is going to be in the ring this time– Jonathan Majors will be joining the cast as the mysterious antagonist. In an interview, Jordan expressed his excitement about the new addition to the crew and explained to Variety why he thought that Majors will make the perfect sparring partner:

“Jonathan’s just an incredible actor, an incredible person. Me and him, we just connected the first time we spoke. And then when I pitched him the film, he hit me right back and it was all go from there, you know? So, he was bought in. He has so many different talents, and things that he brings to the table. He was just perfect for the role, so it was a match made in heaven. I’m extremely lucky. We’re very blessed to have him and I can’t wait for everybody to see what we do.”

Round Three – Begin!

While the underlying themes of Creed III are personal to him, there is little information about the film’s plot. A lot of questions about the characters, posed by the second film, are sure to be answered. How are Adonis and Bianca adjusting to their new lives in Los Angeles, and how is Adonis dealing with fatherhood? We saw baby Amara join the scene in the previous film, and audiences can’t help but wonder how Adonis feels about being a father, especially considering that he himself grew up without a father figure. How will he progress without Rocky, his trainer and friend? The most anticipated question, however, may be in regards to how the fights actually go down between Jordan and Majors.

We know there will at least be a fight or two (or even three or four). Fans are getting excited though to see Jordan return to the ring with new addition Jonathan Majors, because it’s official– Creed III will be released on November 23, 2022. With the release date known, a trailer with all of the punches thrown between Jordan and Majors will surely be released soon; viewers have even been begun making numerous ‘fan-made trailers’ on YouTube anticipating the upcoming film. If an amateur trailer doesn’t scratch that Creed itch, than watching Jordan box in different training footage might in rhe meantime.
