#Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Film Gets New Premiere Date

The upcoming Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time movie (“Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :||“), has received a new March 8 release date. The IMAX, MX4D, and 4DX screenings will all be available on the same day. Additionally, two updated trailers displaying the new release date were also released.

The film was previously scheduled to begin screening in Japan on January 23, but was delayed due to the spread of COVID-19 and the state of emergency declared by the Japanese government. The previous January 23 release date was itself the result of a delay, with the film originally  scheduled to open in Japan on June 27, 2020.

The staff also announced that three million leaflets featuring an exclusive illustration of Asuka by chief animation director Atsushi Nishigori will be handed out during screenings, starting on March 8.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time is the fourth and final entry in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. The first three films in the tetralogy, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance, and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, premiered in 2007, 2009, and 2012 respectively. Like its predecessors, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time’s theme song, “One Last Kiss”, is performed by Utada Hikaru.
