#Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Celebrates 6 Million Tickets Sold With New Spoiler-Filled Trailer

The official Twitter account for anime studio Khara announced tonight that Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time has sold more than 6 million tickets as of its 102nd day in theaters in Japan. To celebrate the occasion, a new spoiler-filled trailer for the film was released, and when I say spoiler-filled, I mean it. You have been warned.

Earlier this week, the official Evangelion Twitter account revealed that the “final” Evangelion film had made more than 9 billion yen ($82.06 million) in Japan, a milestone for any film, and close to breaking into the top 50 highest-grossing films of all time in the country. Though at this stage in the film’s late run, even with the surge of attendance after the release of the updated “3.0+1.01” version, screenings will be slowing down and drying up.

Evangelion 3.0+1.0 finally opened in Japan after being delayed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 8, breaking franchise records on the first day and eventually becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise in Japan in less than a month, then the highest-grossing worldwide in 35 days. It is the longest film in the franchise (not including compilations or special screenings). An updated version of the film, Evangelion 3.0+1.01, was released in Japanese theaters on June 12. There is no word yet on an international release of the film.
