The main trailer for The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World anime adaptation has been released, providing another preview of the show’s fantasy action and characters before it begins in Japan on January 5 (effectively January 6 at 1:28 AM JST).

The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World is based on the Kodansha-published light novels written by Nana Mikoshiba and illustrated by Riko Korie, which began in 2020 and has six volumes as of October 2022. The light novels have inspired a manga adaptation by Sasaki Nobuhito that also began in 2020.

Kodansha USA describes the manga as:

The Arnold Academy of Magic is a school for the elite…and Ray White is just your ordinary guy. In fact, he doesn’t seem particularly skilled with magic at all, and is a bit of a klutz. Which is why he has nothing to do with the rumor that one of the great magicians, the Iceblade Sorcerer, is a member of the incoming class…right?

The anime is directed by Masahiro Takata (Nil Admirari no Tenbin director and audio director), who is also serving as series composer and audio director. Cloudhearts is producing the show with Yokohama Animation Lab providing production assistance. 

Other staff includes Makoto Shimojima (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt and Magatsu Wahrheit -Zuerst- animation director) as character designer, Studio Recess’ Ayumi Kojima (Fate/Grand Order: Himuro no Tenchi – 7-nin no Saikyou Ijin-hen co-art director) as art director, animocaramel’s Natsumi Uchida (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt) as photography director, and Tatsuhiko Saiki (The Dawn of the Witch) and Natsumi Tabuchi (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! co-music composer) as music composers. 

Meanwhile, the main cast includes Junya Enoki as Ray White, Inori Saeki as Amelia Rose, Nana Harumura as Elisa Griffith, Azumi Waki as Rebecca Bradley, Kaede Hondo as Claris Cleveland, Akira Sekine as Ariane Algren, Atsumi Tanezaki as Lydia Ainsworth, Nanako Mori as Abbie Garnet, Maaya Uchida as Carol Caroline, and Yuuichirou Umehara as Evi Armstrong.

The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2019. The light novels are published under the Kodansha Light Novel Bunko label.
