Elon Musk tweets that it’s ‘time to break up Amazon’

Elon Musk’s hiatus from Twitter didn’t last long.

Just three days after announcing that he was “off Twitter for a while,” Musk was back on the platform saying that it’s “time to break up Amazon.”

The Tesla CEO’s outburst came in response to a Thursday tweet from former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, who complained that Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing service had refused to publish his book “Unreported Truths About COVID-19 and Lockdowns.”

Musk responded by tagging Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in a tweet and calling the decision “insane.”

“Time to break up Amazon,” he added. “Monopolies are wrong!”

Berenson had posted a screenshot of an email from Amazon where it said that his book “does not comply with our guidelines.”

“It is based entirely on published government data and scientific papers,” Berenson said. “It doesn’t say coronavirus isn’t real or doesn’t kill people (in fact, the worst-case death toll is likely to be striking to people). And Amazon won’t run it.”

Musk has previously called the coronavirus pandemic “dumb,” and railed against California lawmakers when his Fremont factory was forced to shut down under shelter-in-place orders.

It’s also not the first time that Musk has used Twitter to a jab at the world’s richest man on Twitter. Last spring, Musk poured some rocket fuel on his rivalry with Bezos — whose Blue Origin rocket company is rivals with Musk’s SpaceX — calling the Amazon CEO a copycat for his plan to launch a network of 3,000 internet satellites.

Neither Amazon nor Tesla responded to The Post’s request for comment.
