The eccentric tech tycoon — who added $7.8 billion to his net worth on Monday, thanks to a more than 9-percent jump in Tesla’s stock — is now worth $84.8 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
That leaves Musk trailing only Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. Musk has added added $57.2 billion to his fortune since the beginning of the year as Tesla shares have soared amid rising production and demand for its electric cars.
The automaker continued its supercharged run on Tuesday, adding another 3.2 percent in the first few hours of trading and bringing shares to an all-time high of $1,911.45.
Tesla shares are up more than 340 percent year-to-date. With a market cap of more than $350 billion, it is by far the most valuable automaker in the world.
