#E3’s Super Robot Wars 30 Trailer Promises Familiar Faces, New Story

Mazinger Z, coming to Super Robot Wars 30

Back in 1991, the very first Super Robot Wars game came to the Nintendo Gameboy in Japan, crossing over the worlds of Mazinger ZGetter Robo, and Mobile Suit Gundam. Thirty years later, those three franchises have been joined by mecha (and non-mecha) series from across the world of anime for multiple games on multiple platforms. And to celebrate the Big 3-0, we’re getting a brand new one!

Announced during the Japanese stream of E3 2021’s Nintendo Direct, Super Robot Wars 30 brings together the series’s big three franchises and more. While an official listing of series and units hasn’t been announced, the trailer shows us rep from Combattler VMazinger Z/InfinityMobile Suit Z GundamGaoGaiGar FINALGetter Robo ArmageddonMobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection. Judging by lineups from previous titles, we can likely look forward to many more series, as long as “Banpresto Original” player characters.

The trailer promises a new original story, linking together the many worlds of the series represented.

Eagle-eyed fans may also have noticed the chibi face in the game’s logo: the iconic self-portrait of mecha grandmaster Go Nagai. Nagai’s works have been a part of the series since its beginning. Is its inclusion simply a hat tip to his involvement, or could it be something more? After all, he did show up in Super Robot Wars T:
