#Coco Gauff Skydives Off New Zealand’s Tallest Building for the New Year

Coco Gauff apparently has no fear while she’s Down Under!

On Sunday, the US Open champ shared a gallery of impressive images and videos from her recent trip to SkyJump in Auckland, New Zealand, where she and her family leapt off the country’s tallest building and bungee-jumped 53 stories down at a speed of almost 53 miles per hour.

“Jumping into the new year 🎊 #2024,” the 19-year-old tennis phenom wrote alongside her post on Instagram, which included footage of her plunge.

With her hair flying, Gauff can be heard screaming on her descent, before she safely finds the landing pad.

In another photo, Gauff poses with her mom, Candi, and brothers Cameron, 10, and Codey, 16, while other images show the family members seemingly separately enjoying their in-flight experiences. The athlete pointed out on her Instagram Story, though, that her dad Corey Gauff was too afraid of heights to take the leap.

Gauff is currently soaring through the ASB Classic where she’s the top seed and has made it to the tournament’s round of 16. On Wednesday, the Florida native will take on Czech tennis player Brenda Fruhvirtova.

The world No. 3 has also committed to the first major of the year, the Australian Open, when it begins on Jan. 14.

The athlete’s gutsy jump comes after a year where she rose to the top of tennis.

In September, she became the youngest American to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999 — and it was the result of a hard-fought match against Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka. After losing the first set 2-6, Gauff rallied back to take the second set 6-3, and finished out the match with a dominant 6-2 final set.

Following her victory, Gauff made sure to thank her supportive parents, including her dad who was emotional following her dramatic victory.

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen my dad cry — he doesn’t want me to tell you that,” she told the crowd.
