The boy was watching the fireworks being set off outside his sixth-floor apartment on Anderson Street around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. His teenage sister was filming the illegal light show when a missile suddenly shot through the open window, striking the boy, who began screaming.
The video, tweeted by NYPD Chief Rodney Harrison, shows a series of fireworks going off and then a burst of light as the projectile soars through the window.
The toddler suffered burns on his left arm and received five stitches to his forearm in the harrowing incident.
The boy’s father told the network that he woke up to what he thought were gunshots and the child screaming. He brought his son out to his car to take him to the hospital — but the car was blocked by a box of fireworks that were going off in the direction of the car.
Police said one person is in custody but charges have not been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
