Drake has paid tribute to his late friend Virgil Abloh with a new tattoo following the fashion icon’s death in November.

Located on Drizzy’s forearm, the tattoo is based on a photo of Abloh throwing a kite down a Louis Vuitton runway in 2018 during Paris Fashion Week. The ink was posted to Instagram by Joaquin Ganga, a tattoo artist specializing in black and white realism who has previously tattooed the likes of Post Malone, Chris Brown and LeBron James.

His caption read, “A remembrance of the great Virgil Abloh done on Drake @champagnepapi @virgilabloh Microrealism @off____white @louisvuitton.”

Following Virgil Abloh’s passing, Drake took to Instagram to share several photos honoring his “brother.”

“My plan is to touch the sky 1000 more times for you,” he wrote at the time. “love you eternally brother thank you for everything.”

Virgil Abloh helped design Drake’s private jet, as well as a Patek Philippe Nautilus watch that Drizzy mentioned on his Future collaboration, “Life Is Good.” He raps on the song, “Virgil got a Patek on my wrist goin’ nuts.”

Drake’s tattoo collection includes nods to Lil Wayne, Sade, The Beatles, Skepta, Rihanna, Denzel Washington, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, along with other posthumous tributes to Aaliyah and Michael Jackson.

Virgil Abloh died on November 28, 2021 after battling cancer for over two years while serving as Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton.

“We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend,” a statement read. “He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”

It continued, “For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture.”
