#Kyoto Animation’s CITY The Animation Gets Stunning 1st Trailer, July 6 Premiere

The Kyoto Animation-produced CITY The Animation has received a July 6 JST (effectively July 7 at 12 AM JST) premiere date and a trailer.   

Beyond previewing the main characters and the vibe of the series, the CITY The Animation trailer shows off an impressive aesthetic that makes it hard to tell if some of the components are regular backgrounds or foreground drawings. The end of the trailer goes further with a 3D camera shot that doesn’t break the 2D appearance of the city.

Aside from these, the anime also received a “GOD CARTOON” concept visual from the .MP creative team, more cast announcements, and theme song details. The opening song is Furui Riho‘s “Hello,” while the ending song is TOMOO‘s “LUCKY.” Meanwhile the additional cast members are:

CITY The Animation is based on the manga by Nichijou‘s Keiichi Arawi, which ran from 2016 to 2021 in Kodansha’s Morning. Vertical Comics describes the premise as:

From the creator of nichijou, this surreal-slapstick series revolves around a penniless college student, Midori Nagumo, who lives in an ordinary city filled with not-quite-ordinary people. And as this reckless girl runs about, she sets the city in motion.

Midori is in a bit of a bind. She is in debt, and her landlady is trying to shake her down for unpaid rent. Her best friend refuses to loan her cash since she’s wised up to her tricks.

Maybe some bullying would help. Or a bit of petty theft? Neither is sustainable. Maybe getting a job would settle things… But working means less time for fun adventures in the big city…
