Is this a glimpse of life during the climate apocalypse?

Drones in Norway have captured shocking footage of a portion of the city of Alta’s coastline being sucked into the sea in a matter of minutes.

The chunk of land measured approximately half a mile wide (800 meters) across and 131 feet (40 meters) above the sea level. The landslide swept up eight buildings, according to local officials, who also say they have received no reports of human injury or death.

However, Finnmark police’s Torfinn Halvari told Norway’s NTB newswire that they couldn’t yet be certain whether any lives were lost as a result.

“We still have on-site crews working to assess landslide security or the danger of new landslides. We cannot say with any certainty that no one has been taken,” he told The Local, an English-language Norwegian news site.

The clip has since gone viral on social media — as people agree the incident is indicative of an already fraught year.

“This is mad. Even the earth wants to get away from 2020!” one person posted in response to the footage on Twitter.

“2020 just doesn’t quit!” added another.

Halvari said that a dog was also swept away in the disaster but heroically swam back to the mainland. An emergency rescue team was able to retrieve the muddied pup via helicopter. There is no word yet on whether the very good boy or girl was a lost pet and returned to its owner.
