“#Documentary Following Anno’s Work on Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Gets Rebuilt 100-Minute Extended Version”

Last month, NHK aired a special documentary that followed Hideaki Anno‘s work on the latest Evangelion film, Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, but due to popular demand, the public broadcaster is rebuilding the special into the 100-minute documentary “Goodbye All of Evangelion ~ 1214 days of Hideaki Anno ~”. The special will air on NHK’s BS 1 channel on April 29 in two 50-minute blocks from 8 PM.

The new special will be an extended version of the 75-minute Professional Work Style special featuring extended scenes and more interviews that couldn’t fit into the timeslot of the original special. After the news that 3.0+1.0 has become the highest-grossing Evangelion film worldwide, it’ll be interesting to look even closer at the production of the final Evangelion film.
Evangelion 3.0+1.0 finally opened in Japan after being delayed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 8, breaking franchise records on the first day and eventually becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise in Japan in less than a month, then the highest-grossing worldwide in 35 days. It is the longest film in the franchise (not including compilations or special screenings). There is no word yet on an international release of the film.
