DMX is in an ICU after suffering a heart attack, TMZ reports. The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, was taken into care at a hospital in White Plains, New York on Saturday evening and has spent the weekend on life support.

His lawyer, Murray Richman, confirmed that his client is receiving medical attention, telling Pix11: “He had a heart attack. He’s quite ill.”

On Sunday, The New York Times reported that DMX remained on life support and in a “vegetative state.” as the rapper’s manager Nakia Walker told the Times. “We’re just praying,” manager Nakia Walker said, adding that relatives of the rapper have been gathering at the hospital.

A spokesperson told TMZ: “Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer. The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

DMX has battled substance abuse and has been to rehab several times, most recently in 2019 after he completed a 12-month prison sentence for tax evasion. Richman refused to comment on whether the heart attack was triggered by a reported overdose.
