#Dirt-bike rider who struck 5-year-old boy turns himself in: cops

The dirt-bike rider who allegedly slammed into a 5-year-old boy in a Bronx park last month has surrendered to cops.

Joel Rodriguez, 29, turned himself in to police at the 44th Precinct station house around 5 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Rodriguez was riding a red and white bike “at a high rate of speed” at 3:30 p.m. May 16 at Macombs Dam Park near Yankee Stadium when he struck the boy, who was with his 29-year-old mother and 2-year-old brother, according to cops.

When parkgoers started arguing with the suspect, he ran off, authorities said.

Another man took the bike, claiming it was his, police said.

The boy, who was bleeding from his nose and mouth, was taken to New York-Presbyterian hospital in stable condition.

Rodriguez was charged with raps including assault and reckless endangerment, cops said.

The incident came days before the NYPD’s announcement that it is trying a new tactic to crack down on illegal dirt bikes and ATVs in the city — by offering $100 for tips that lead to seizures of them.

Chief of Department Rodney Harrison said the NYPD will pay fed-up residents for reporting the noisy vehicles.
