#Dion Lewis shows Giants the burst he has to offer

Highlights from Thursday’s Giants practice:

Good

In an open-field 1-on-1 drill designed to heavily favor the receivers, Xavier McKinney and Grant Haley fought for pass break-ups. In the same drill, Golden Tate shook off rookie Darnay Holmes, and Christian Angulo shoved Austin Mack to the ground as a penalty flag flew and they exchanged words.

Up-and-down

James Bradberry has the slimmest margin for error on the roster because of the lack of depth at cornerback. He got beat deep by C.J. Board in 1-on-1s but bounced back with tight downfield coverage on Darius Slayton during the team period.

Caught my eye

The best plays of the 11-on-11 periods were a touchdown pass on a fade route from Colt McCoy to David Sills over Haley, and a breakout run by Dion Lewis in a no-huddle period. Saquon Barkley got plenty of work during practice, but Lewis, 29, has enough burst left to be a complementary specialist.

Medical report

Cornerback Corey Ballentine was held out of 11-of-11s but coach Joe Judge said it was not the result of the jarring hit he took Tuesday, but rather trying to keep legs fresh. Undrafted rookie Jarren Williams slid up the pecking order.
