#Di Gi Charat Mascot Franchise Green-lights New Mini Anime

During its June 12 livestream, the Di Gi Charat Mascot Franchise announced that a new mini anime has been green-lit for production. The new anime is part of the Reiwa no Di Gi Charat project that marks the franchise’s 24th anniversary and also celebrates the current Reiwa Era in Japan.

Hiroaki Sakurai (Maid Sama!, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. franchise) returns to direct the new mini anime at LIDEN Films, while Atsuko Watanabe (Place to Place, Heavy Object) is in charge of character design. The franchise’s original character designer Koge-Donbo* illustrated the new key visual.

The new anime will feature a new character named Bushirodo-no-Mikoto or “Bushi-chan,” who is Bushiroad’s guardian deity born in 2007, which is the year the company was founded. 

Returning cast members include Asami Sanada as Di Gi Charat, Miyuki Sawashiro as Petit Charat, Kyoko Hikami as Rabi~en~Rose, Yoshiko Kamei as Gema, Megumi Hayashibara as Piyocola Analogue III, Kōsuke Toriumi as Rik Heisenberg, Chihiro Suzuki as Ky Schweitzer, and Tomo Saeki as Coo Erhard. Satomi Akesaka is voicing Brocco-desu, the goddess of Broccoli.

The Di Gi Charat franchise features mascot characters of media company Broccoli and retail chain GAMERS. The franchise was launched in 1998 has included manga, anime, and video games adaptations, and hosted voice actor events since launch. The original 16-episode Di Gi Charat television anime series aired in 1999.
