#DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli says he’d ‘love’ to hire NYPD cops

The Department of Homeland Security has a message for NYPD cops disgruntled over recent anti-police unrest and a lack of backing from lawmakers: We’re hiring.

Ken Cuccinelli, the agency’s acting deputy secretary, tweeted Wednesday afternoon that DHS would welcome fed-up Finest with open arms.

“Hey, #NYPD, @DHSgov would love to have you if NYC doesn’t want you!” wrote Cuccinelli in the opening of a five-tweet thread. “Come join our team, where you will be appreciated by your political leadership instead of being belittled and treated like you are the problem instead of part of the solution.”

Among the “hundreds” of openings in “key positions” Cuccinelli listed were gigs in “law enforcement, travel security, emergency prevention, response, & management, as well as cybersecurity, IT, & intel analysis.”

The attempt at police-poaching comes amid ongoing nationwide turmoil sparked by the late May death of George Floyd, a black man killed when a white Minneapolis cop knelt on his neck.

In June alone, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a sweeping package of police reform legislation, city lawmakers cut approximately $1 billion from the NYPD’s $6 billion budget — to the ire of President Trump — and the department saw a surge in retirements, including a Bronx precinct commander who quit in protest.
