An investigator tasked with ferreting out wrongdoing in New York City’s Department of Correction is facing a felony assault charge for allegedly attacking a cop during a drunk driving arrest over the holiday weekend, The Post has learned.

Alexandria Maldonado — a supervising investigator at the NYC DOC, according to her LinkedIn — was busted around 10:15 p.m. Saturday evening after cops got reports of a driver swerving on Route 28 in Ulster County, according to police.

The 39-year-old was pulled over by cops with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection Police in the Town of Olive and allegedly spat on one of the officers and scratched one of their faces during the arrest, police confirmed.

But she managed to avoid any time in lockup — despite facing a felony charge for allegedly assaulting an officer, according to police.

“After consulting with the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Maldonado was released into the custody of a friend,” a DEP police spokesman said.

The investigator was slapped with an appearance ticket for second-degree assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated, which is a misdemeanor, according to the spokesman.

The Ulster County DA did not immediately respond as to why Maldonado was cut free with an appearance ticket.

One DOC source quipped, “It’s just hypocrisy at its best.”

“Her reckless actions and attack on a law enforcement officer clearly disqualify her from serving as an impartial investigator where she determines the fate of corrections officers’ careers,” the source said, adding that she has since been suspended but is expected her to stay in her position.

A spokesperson for the NYC DOC confirmed that Maldonado has been suspended without pay.

Maldonado has worked at the DOC for just over 8 years, according to her LinkedIn, and pulled in $105,000 in 2019, payroll records show.

Reached by phone, the investigator said “no comment” and hung up after The Post reporter identified himself.
